Course Title: HICS for Leadership Training

Length: 4 Hours

Class Size: 30

HSS’ HICS Leadership Training is a three hour offering designed for hospital staff and leadership, who will likely assume a role within the Hospital Incident Management Team. This program will be held onsite and taught by a credentialed instructor with a wealth of real-world Healthcare Emergency Management experience.

Instruction focuses on how HICS, as a system, is extremely useful; not only does it provide an organizational structure for incident management, but it also guides the process for planning, building, and adapting that structure. The principles presented also involve how the HICS apply to all mission areas (Prevention, Protection, Mitigation, Response, and Recovery) and all hazards. Instruction also includes education and practical application of the HICS resources to include: planning, documentation, and incident response/planning guides. Training delivery includes the combination of lecture, best practices, practical application of the HICS resources, and a facilitated tabletop exercise inclusive of all participants.

Training Objectives:

  • Learn and apply the Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) principle concepts, command structure, and Hospital Incident Management Team functions to incident scenarios.
  • Learn and apply the HICS resources to hospital incident scenarios, which include: documentation forms, job action sheets, and incident response guides.
  • Participate in a facilitated, scenario driven, tabletop exercise that provides participants with an opportunity to utilize the HICS resources and demonstrate their understanding and familiarity with the healthcare application of its command structure.
